TARGET PARTICIPANTS

 

Parents and caregivers of children between the ages of 7 to 12 (P1 to P6).

 

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

 

SpLD learners have more struggles writing because of the nature of their learning needs. They can have difficulties with content, organisation and fluency in addition to weaknesses in spelling. This workshop aims to help parents and teachers acquire the strategies to help primary school SpLD learners to become more fluent and motivated writers.

 

BRIEF COURSE CONTENT

 

Topics:

1. Overview of how children learn to write

2. Writing difficulties faced by SpLD learners

3. Strategies to help with content, organisation and fluency

4. Fun and creative writing activities to motivate reluctant SpLD writers

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • to articulate how SpLD learners may struggle with writing tasks.
  • to apply a variety of strategies to support SpLD learners in their content, organisation and fluency when they write.
  • to use fun and creative writing activities to motivate SpLD learners who are reluctant to write.
