COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

This certificate course will expose participants to the current research on dyslexia and Chinese language, as well as pedagogical approaches to support children with language learning difficulties. Participants will also be introduced to strategies that can actively engage children in building literacy skills such as orthographic and morphological awareness, stroke formation and patterns, oracy skills, comprehension and writing. Some other helpful resources will also be shared in this course.

 

Note: The course will be conducted in both English and Mandarin, in order to explain certain concepts.

  • Nature and structure of Chinese characters
  • Chinese literacy intervention and effective teaching principles
  • Understanding the Chinese curriculum in Singapore (Primary)
  • Teaching strategies for learning Chinese characters, oracy, comprehension and writing skills

 

 

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT

 

Using the knowledge and taught strategies, create a set of teaching and learning materials appropriate for learners with language difficulties, supplemented with minimum 500-word write-up that explains the purpose, learning objectives and reflection on practice.

 

CERTIFICATION AWARDED

 

  • A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to participants who attain at least 75% attendance and successfully pass the assessment.
  • A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who attain at least 75% attendance but do not wish to undertake the assessment
