Based on the Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation (APIE) model, this course aims to build awareness of Specific Learning Differences (SpLDs) in relation to preschool learners. Participants will come to understand the causal theories behind dyslexia, dyspraxia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and speech and language impairment (SLI), and how these SpLDs manifest themselves at the preschool stage. This awareness will help contribute to early identification and intervention, which is integral to ensuring that each child's developmental needs are met in a structured and sound manner. Beyond theoretical content, the course will also introduce participants to practitioner-friendly assessment tools to screen or informally assess preschool learners suspected of having SpLD. Lastly, participants will be trained in practical classroom and intervention strategies to support at-risk preschool learners




  • Understanding Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Specific Language Impairment
  • Theories and Approaches in Early Childhood Education
  • Practitioner- friendly Assessment Tools (e.g. the Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing (CTOPP) and the Dyslexia Early Screening Test)
  • Practical Classroom and Intervention Strategies for At-risk Learners




  • Written Quiz based on the first two sessions of the course
  • Case Study and Written Report


Participants are to undertake a case study and write a report based on it. The case study will require participants to select and carry out a screening or informal assessment of a preschool learner whom they suspect has a specific learning difficulty like dyslexia, dyspraxia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or specific language impairment. Based on the data they have collected, they will then plan a 20-minute lesson or activity to support this learner.




  • A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to participants who attain at least 75% attendance and successfully pass the assessment.
  • A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who attain at least 75% attendance but do not wish to undertake the assessment.
