TARGET PARTICIPANTS

Educators of students between the ages of 10 to 12 (P4 to P6).

 

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

 

This workshop aims to expose educators to the challenges learners with learning difficulties have with Maths word problems. Learners with learning difficulties such as dyslexia may struggle with working memory, thus impacting how they tackle word problems. This workshop thus aims to equip educators with strategies to break down word problems and approach different types of word problems in a consistent manner through heuristics and problem-solving approaches that are commonly used in the upper primary level.

 

BRIEF COURSE CONTENTS

 

1. The nature of Maths word problems

2. Difficulties learners with learning difficulties have with Maths word problems

3. Common heuristics and problem-solving approaches

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Recognise the struggles that learners with learning difficulties have with Maths word problems
  • Gain knowledge in the various heuristics and problem-solving approaches needed to solve common Maths word problems
  • Apply practical strategies to support learners with learning difficulties with Maths word problems

 

COURSE DELIVERY
