About the Course
The 15-hour certificate course will expose participants to the current research on dyslexia and Chinese language, as well as pedagogical approaches to support children with language learning difficulties. Through building awareness of the nature and structure of language, participants will gain a better understanding of the difficulties dyslexic children face when learning the Chinese language, especially as a second language. Participants will also be introduced to strategies that can actively engage children in building literacy skills such as orthographic and morphological awareness, stroke formation and patterns, oracy skills, comprehension and writing. Some other helpful resources will also be shared in this course.
本课程将介绍目前关于读写障碍与学习华语的研究,以及辅助学习困难孩童的教学方法。参与者将会对语言的性质和结构有更好的认识,也更了解读写障碍孩童在学习汉语时所面临的困难。本课程将会介绍一些实用有效的教学策略,如识字法和语素意识、口语技巧、基本理解和写作。 同时也将与参与者分享教学资源。
Note: The course will be conducted in both English and Mandarin, in order to explain certain concepts.
Target Audience
The target audience may be a teacher who needs an insight into how to cope with dyslexia in the classroom, a parent who wants to support their child at home or other professionals and specialists who support students with learning differences.
Learners who may benefit from the strategies shared in the course include:
A younger learner who has poor oracy skills
An older learner who has difficulty in word recognition, reading and writing

COURSE DELIVERY
DAS Academy will be delivering the course with dual-mode of learning; face-to-face or online via live-stream on Zoom. Please indicate your preferred mode of learning in the registration form. Please note that you will not be allowed to change your preference once the registration is completed.
ASSESSMENT
Create a teaching resource and write a reflection on the created resource. The write-up should be between 750 to 1000 words.
The written assignment is due 20 working days after the last day of the course.
CERTIFICATION AWARDED
*Course will be postponed if the minimum number of participants is not met
In partnership with the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), this online e-learning course introduces participants to a broad overview of Dyslexia, a specific learning difficulty.
