About the Course

Executive functioning difficulties are commonly experienced by children with a range of other neurological conditions which include dyslexia, Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). This makes it imperative for practitioners and parents who work with these children to have good knowledge of executive functioning difficulties and learn how to better support them in this area. This 15-hour course aims to focus on the information that is most needed to support a child in a mainstream context. It allows practitioners and parents to appreciate the executive functioning processes that are behind the successful execution of academic tasks, delves into the implications of executive functioning difficulties on academic learning in school, and imparts practical, down-to-earth strategies that can lead to improved daily performance.


This 15-hour course is aimed at empowering educators in further education and higher education (FEHE), mainly post-secondary institutions, vocational institutions and universities, with practical knowledge and skills to support pupils with specific learning difficulties (SpLD). The course commences with an overview of dyslexia and the commonly co-occurring difficulties, introduces a range of screening instruments that can provide insight into the pupil's struggles, delves into a range of strategies used in tutorial support and culminates in a shared discussion of principles of inclusive classroom teaching and suggests recommendations of reasonable adjustments and provisions in FEHE context.


Target Audience

The target audience may be a professional, educator or parent who needs an insight into the challenges learners with specific learning difficulties face in higher and further education settings and the corresponding strategies to support them in their academic pursuits.


Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module, participants will be able to:

  • Understand Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) (dyslexia and some co-occurring difficulties)
  • Recognise the implications of SpLD in the FEHE context
  • Recognise the features of an SpLD-friendly learning environment in the FEHE context
  • Acquire SpLD-friendly strategies for supporting learners in the FEHE context



DAS Academy will be delivering the course with dual-mode of learning; face-to-face or online via live-stream on Zoom. Please indicate your preferred mode of learning in the registration form. Please note that you will not be allowed to change your preference once the registration is completed.



Develop an action plan focusing on the challenges a specific learner faces at the FEHE level and reflect on practice. The action plan with write-up should be between 750 to 1000 words. 

The written assignment is due 20 working days after the last day of the course.



  • A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to participants who attain at least 75% attendance and successfully pass the assessment.
  • A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who attain at least 75% attendance but do not wish to undertake the assessment.


*Course will be postponed if minimum number of participants is not met
